About Michael Kern

Founder | Mediator | CHRO

At the heart of every thriving organization is one thing: people who know how to work through challenges together—productively, constructively, and respectfully.

I built my career helping organizations do exactly that.

For over 20 years, I served as an HR executive in organizations ranging from early-stage startups to mature companies expanding into global markets. My experience spans the software, engineering, and professional services sectors. I led culture transformations, supported international growth, and guided teams through rapid change and disruption. My business career followed earning a JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Later, I deepened my focus on conflict resolution through extensive mediation training, which now informs my work helping organizations navigate conflict, build constructive cultures, and lead more effectively.

What I learned—both as a CHRO and a mediator—is that conflict itself isn’t the problem. It’s how we handle it. Managed well, conflict builds trust, deepens collaboration, and fuels high performance. Handled poorly—or ignored—it becomes one of the biggest barriers to success.

That’s why I founded this practice.

Today, I help leaders and organizations make conflict constructive. Whether it’s supporting leadership teams, facilitating tough conversations, or transforming organizational culture, my work combines the rigor of evidence-based models with the nuance of real-world conflict resolution.

I also serve on the leadership team at Human Synergistics, a global pioneer in culture and leadership assessments. Through research-backed tools like the Organizational Culture Inventory® and Leadership/Impact®, I help organizations unlock the culture shifts needed for long-term success.

Outside of my consulting work, I serve as a coach and mentor at the Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR) in Chicago, where I train mediators and volunteer in court-based mediations—including no-contact petitions, family and parenting disputes, evictions, and juvenile restorative justice.

If you believe your organization’s success depends on how well your people navigate conflict, communicate, and collaborate—you’re in the right place.
